LA Metro: A Map to the Future
This is a hobbyist project done by Poren Chiang, an UCLA graduate and a public transport enthusiast.
- All existing stations and approved constructions by May 2021 are drawn as-is.
- Several stations were renamed based on local public attractions or the municipal jurisdiction they reside in, following a convention similar to Taipei Metro’s.
- All BRTs are assumed to be converted to LRTs and move off from highways, except the existing stations on C Line.
- Description of Each Line
- A Line
- Foothill Extension completed and further extended to Ontario Airport (ONT).
- B Line
- rerouted southward to run through the Vermont Corridor all the way to Harbor City. Northern terminus extended one stop to Bob Hope Airport (BUR).
- C Line
- follows the Crenshaw/LAX Line C-1 operation plan, with the San Vincente hybrid as the illustrated northern extension. Each terminus were extended to Hollywood Bowl and Norwalk/Santa Fe Spring Metrolink station.
- D Line
- extended eastward along I-10/Garvey Ave corridor (Metro Bus 70/770) to El Monte, with a 6th/Arts District Station branch.
- E Line
- Washington alternative of Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2.
- G Line
- concatenated with Glendale–Eagle Rock–Pasadena Corridor, terminating in Pasaenda on Colorado Ave.
- J Line
- runs from Atwater Village in Glendale to 19th St in San Pedro as an LRT, via Sunset Blvd in Silver Lake and Avalon Blvd/Broadway in South LA. The downtown portion was pieced from scrapped 5th/Flower Station and Santa Ana LRT’s Fashion District Station proposal, lightening the load of major interchanges by crossing at Pershing Square. Potential route alignment in San Pedro includes Pacific Ave or the abandoned train tracks along Harbor Blvd.
- K Line
- extended past Torrance, connecting eastward to Carson and Long Beach. The route generally follows Torrance Transit Line 7 but go down through Westside in Long Beach instead to avoid conflict with J Line on Avalon.
- L Line
- runs a shuttle service LRT on Atlantic Blvd with the potential to be extended northward to Pasadena, similar to the existing Metro Bus 762.
- M Line
- Sepulveda Corridor HRT with STCP’s HRT configuration and station alignment.
- N Line
- Van Nuys LRT in East San Fernando Valley.
- Q Line
- Santa Ana LRT with a downtown 5th/Flower connection, a northward extension to Atwater (Glendale Metrolink station), and a southward extension to Stanton rail wye for potential future connections with Orange County Streetcar system.
- R Line
- North San Fernando Valley LRT running from Chatsworth station to North Hollywood.
- Inglewood ITC
- Inglewood people mover is also illustrated.

An older version of this map from last year is also available. Thanks to folks on Twitter, lines have been simplified, typos fixed and bus corridors referenced for this version.
